SHRM Hosts Former President Bush at SHRM22
George W. Bush, 43rd president of the United States, will be the special guest during the June 15 closing general session of SHRM22.
He served in the nation’s highest office from 2001 to 2009. During his administration, Bush led the nation in response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon; through the devastation of Hurricane Katrina; and through the fall of Lehman Brothers and the recession.
He will speak with SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, about leading the nation while managing crises, as well as the importance of hiring good talent.
“HR professionals have faced unprecedented challenges with the pandemic and now the Great Resignation,” Taylor said, noting SHRM is honored to host the former president.
“Since leaving office, President Bush has focused his efforts on issues that are in line with building better workplaces and a better world and causing positive effects by supporting our veterans, advancing educational opportunities for women and girls in oppressive societies, and enhancing global economic prosperity and competitiveness. I know this will be an engaging and informative discussion with the former president.”
Arianna Huffington Joins SHRM22
Arianna Huffington, founder and CEO of Thrive and founder of The Huffington Post, will talk about the importance of mental health in the workplace during her main stage address on June 14.
Thrive is a global behavior-change tech company based in New York City focused on changing the way people work and live and ending the stress and burnout epidemic.
“When the pandemic hit, the themes at the heart of our mission suddenly became among the most urgent issues of our time, bringing employee well-being, mental health and resilience to the top of companies’ agendas,” Huffington said.
“And now we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to redefine work and productivity as companies increasingly realize that well-being is not a perk but an essential strategy for success.”
Humana CEO and CHRO Discuss Their Partnership
Humana President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce D. Broussard and Chief Administrative Officer Tim S. Huval will take the main stage at SHRM22 on June 12 to discuss the crucial partnership between CEOs and chief administrative officers.
“The last few years have further demonstrated the power of an engaged workforce aligned around a common purpose,” Huval said. “We believe it starts with a set of core values in combination with offering the right mix of benefits, resources and flexibility to help our teammates thrive. When they thrive, so does our business—and ultimately, our members and the communities we serve.”
